One of the most sought after running backs in the country totaled 2,536 yards and 33 touchdowns on 267 carries as a senior (9.5 yards per carry) had 20 catches for 268 yards and eight scores added four punt returns for touchdowns of 50 yards or more...finished his career with 6,624 rushing yards and 114 touchdowns (a state record at the time)...a Parade All-American and first-team USA Today All-USA selection...the USA Today Player of the Year for the state of North Carolina ...Tom Lemming's No. 1 prospect in the Mid-Atlantic and No. 2 prospect nationally...SuperPrep's No. 4 running back (No. 14 player overall) nationally No.1 running back in the country by PrepStar and offensive MVP of the ACC region� regarded as the No. 8 prospect in the country by The Sporting News...listed at No. 22 overall by the NRA...named the 1998 Gatorade Circle of Champions high school player of the year for the Southern region and state of North Carolina (athletic/academic achievement)...the No. 1 player in the state according to Bill Buchalter...also ran track and played basketball at Brown. Kalif Phillips played varsity football at A.L. Brown from 2011 to 2012. In those two seasons Phillips rushed for 3226 yards on 325 carries scoring fifty nine touchdowns. Phillips shared the backfield in 2012 with yet another 1000 yard rusher in Ricky Sherrill. One of Kalif's most stellar high school outings came in a 2012 second round playoff game with Hickory Ridge in which Phillips rushed for a game record 351 yards scoring seven touchdowns.
At the conclusion of his senior year in 2013 Phillips signed with the 49ers in February as a member of the program’s second recruiting class. In 2013 Kalif Played in all 11 games of the inaugural season without a start as a true freshman ... led the 49ers in rushing and touchdowns, setting several school marks and firsts along the way. Phillips rushed for 716 yards and 12 TDs on 129 carries ... averaged 5.6 yards per rush and 65.1 yards per game ... ranked 26th in FCS with 12 rushing TDs ...also caught 10 passes for 76 yards and one touchdown ... finished with school-record 13 touchdowns to become the first 49er with double-digit TDs in a season and/or career ... scored 8 TDs in final four games ... scored 49ers first rushing TD on 15-yard run in inaugural game, Aug. 31, vs. Campbell ... posted 49ers record 132 yard rushing effort (15 carries) at #3 Coastal Carolina, Nov. 2, for 49ers first-ever 100-yard rushing game ... set 49ers single-game record with three TD’s in season-finale at Morehead State, Nov. 23, to earn Madness FCS Independent Offensive Player of the Week honors.
