"TV-13 Game of the Week"
The first points of the game would come courtesy of Spider back Ray Massey on this fifty one yard touchdown run up the middle. The PAT would be good and the Spiders would lead 7-0 with 10:06 left in the first period.
The Wonders would tie the game on this five yard TD plunge up the middle with 2:55 left in the first period. The PAT by Ben Johnson would be good and the game would be deadlocked at seven a piece.
The Spiders came roaring back on this twenty five yard run up the middle by Spider back Jay Graham. With 7:38 left in the second period the Spiders would take the lead at 14-7.
Not content with fourteen with 1:25 left before intermission, Jay Graham explodes off the left tackle for this sixty yard touchdown run putting the Spiders ahead by two scores. The PAT would be good and the Spiders would take the lead 21-7.
On third and one on the opening drive after intermission Michael Barnes finds daylight and explodes for this forty one yard touchdown to close the gap. The PAT would be blocked and the Wonders would still be down by two 21-13.
With the Wonders backed up in the shadow of their own end zone the Concord defense pushes into the backfield to stop Michael Barnes in his tracks for the safety. This would put the Spiders up 23-13
The Spiders would score yet again with ten seconds left in the third quarter to give the Spiders a 30-13 cushion going into the fourth quarter. Spider back Jay Graham would score his third touchdown on this three yard plunge up the middle. The Spiders could sense victory after this score.
The Wonders would score their final points of the game on this touchdown pass from Andy Smith to Marlon Hall. The two point conversion attempt would fail and the Spiders would take the victory at 30-20 ending the Wonders bid for an undefeated season and SPC title.
The Wonders experience their first loss of the season at the hands of the Concord Spiders who clinched the SPC championship and home field advantage throughout the playoffs. Here Wonder Captain Grady Hardeman is seen having the dubious task of taking the victory bell back over to the Spiders.
