"The Bell Arrives"
In 1950 the stakes for the Kannapolis/Concord rivalry took on a whole new meaning as a little symbolic gesture of good will was thrown into the already heated skirmish. Southern Railway donated a Bell to what was then known as the Kannapolis Sports Club. The intent of this totemistic piece of rivalry hardware was to promote sportsmanship and goodwill between the two rival schools. Now you can poll as many people as you like, but the overall consensus was this only added fuel to the fire that burned between the two cross town rivals. The bell though charitable in it's intent began a tug of war between the two neighboring cities of unprecedented proportions. Today the bell is as much an integral part of the rivalry as it was when it was first donated in 1950
